Partner Post: Anthology's Blog on Empowering Energy Resilience through Online Learning: A Path to Efficiency and Savings

Author: Celena Westlund, Senior Marketing Manager for Business and Government at Anthology

Energy is undeniably central to operational success, whether for government agencies, corporations, or indeed any organization. While large institutions like the US Army set ambitious goals for energy resilience, your organization can begin its journey from an attainable starting point.

Fueling Efficiency through Online Learning

At Anthology, we are committed to supporting learning and development teams in their mission to deliver training programs that align with the objectives of both personnel and the organization. Our partnership with the Department of Defense Fire Academy offers an illustrative example of how embracing online learning can lead to remarkable benefits. Traditionally, learners at the academy carried hefty three-inch binders filled with course materials. Transitioning away from textbooks, binders, and paper tests marked a significant cultural shift, but it ultimately simplified the learning process by placing all necessary materials at trainees' fingertips. This transition also resulted in a remarkable 75% reduction in printing costs. The funds thus saved became available for repurposing, addressing other pressing needs within the academy.

Empowering Work-Life Balance and Savings

Another notable example comes from one of our corporate clients, Xcel Energy, a company that operates in the energy sector. Xcel Energy's approach to training was drastically transformed through the adoption of Blackboard® Learn. Previously, employees and contractors from eight different states had to converge at the company's headquarters for intensive six to eight week onsite training programs. This meant being away from their families, residing in hotels, and staying out of the field for nearly two months. The associated overhead costs and energy inefficiencies stemming from extensive travel and outdated training methods, like traditional PowerPoint presentations and technical manuals, were mounting rapidly.

Tony Gagliardo, vice president of enterprise, nuclear, and technical training at Xcel Energy, attests to the positive impact of this shift: "It's improved work-life balance, it's improved the proficiency of the learners…and it saved us a ton of money, which we've been able to internally repurpose instead of having to go out and ask for additional funding or support. So I can use that money for the fire of the day, whatever that might be."

Reimagining Learning & Development Programs

As government agencies and corporations seek ways to become more energy-conscious and reduce overhead costs, transitioning courses and materials to online platforms stands out as a highly effective starting point. At Anthology, we are dedicated to assisting agencies and corporations in reimagining their learning and development programs. Online learning not only makes it more convenient for personnel to access courses but also contributes to energy savings and enhanced efficiency.

Consider the transformative power of Blackboard Learn for your organization. By embracing online learning, you not only bolster your energy resilience but also empower your workforce, reduce costs, and align with the spirit of National Energy Awareness Month. Join us in this journey toward a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient future. Discover Blackboard Learn for government and for businesses.
